2007 Race Results

Race Results from May 12
Six divisions of cars/trucks put on a great show opening night of the 2007 season Saturday night at the Wilmot Speedway.  Scott Lenz started outside of row one in the 410 Sprint feature and wasted no time moving to the lead.  Polesitter Jeff Becker got together with Dave Moulis on the opening lap giving the lead right to Lenz.  Lenz opened up a sizable lead quickly while the battle for second on back raged between Scott Semelmann, Darrell Dodd and Patrick Haynes.  Unfortunately, Haynes’ night ended when he brought out the yellow on lap 12. Lenz was never seriously challenged and picked up his first ever sprint car feature win.  Dodd finished second and Semelmann third.

The modified feature started with Larry Surletta on the pole, Mike Simons in the second position and Eric Scribner inside row two.  Four laps into the race Scribner had already watched Surletta and Simons swap the lead 3 times.  Mike Conn brought out the yellow for the first time on lap 5.  On the restart, Scribner was able to work his way past both Surletta and Simons to take over the lead.  By lap eight, Scribner had build a sizeable lead and was pulling away from the field when the caution came out on lap 8 bunching up the field behind him.  Scribner wasted no time on the restart to set the pace again while the action happened back in the field.  Mike Bodendorfer, who started in row 6, was on the move and up to the second spot when the field completed lap 10.  Kris Techert caught up to Bodendorfer on lap 15 and looked to the inside.  Two laps later, Techert had control of the second position.  The yellow came out again on lap 18 when a tangle on the frontstretch resulted in Jason Heyerdahl upside down at the start finish line resulted in officials checkering the race.  Scribner picked up the win with Techert second and Jeff Bodendorfer third.

Nick Sheridan looked like a strong contender for his first feature win in the mini-sprint division after winning the heat race and leading the first 3 laps of the feature.  Unfortunately, Sheridan’s mini-sprint experienced mechanical problems halfway through lap 4 ending his night.  Ron Brannum inherited the lead and won easily over Kirtess Boers.

Jim Vandervere started 2007 on a great note winning the Street Stock feature event.  Vandervere worked his way past Cody Potter on lap 5 to take the lead and never looked back.  Behind him, Steve Hertz and Bruce Laubinger put on a show for the second spot.  Laubinger was able to work past Hertz on lap 15 and tried to run down Vandervere.  Unfortunately for Laubinger, there weren’t enough laps left and he had to settle for a second place finish.  Hertz finished third with Bob Walczak taking home the fourth place.

Dustin Richards became the first ever Fearless 4 feature winner at Wilmot after leading just one lap.  Luckily for Richards, the only lap he led was the final one.  Richards started in the 7th spot and methodically worked his way towards the front.  Up front, Tom Homan looked like the man to beat and his number 57 was working perfectly.  Going into lap 15, Homan still had the advantage but Richards was able to pull alongside of Homan down the back stretch and ended up with the win.

The final race of the night featured the trucks and Dale Gustum led from the start and ran away with the win.

The Interstate Racing Association (IRA) made their first of four appearances at the Wilmot Speedway Saturday night and didn’t disappoint the fans.  Danny Goeden put on a furious battle with Mike Kertscher and Steve Meyer to pick up the Wayne Daun Memorial feature win.  The event started with Ty Bartz on the pole with Tommy Sexton to his outside.  Sexton hold onto the second position until Kertscher got by him on lap five.  The leaders started coming up on lapped traffic just after completing lap nine.  Going into turn two, Bartz became just a little impatient and got his left front tire up and over the left rear of Kris Spitz’s number 3k.  Luckily for Bartz the yellow came out so he got his spot back for the restart.  Bartz lost his opportunity for the win when he spun by himself on lap nine turning the lead over to Kertscher.  Goeden was the car on the move and he was able get past Kertscher on lap 13.  Mike Dubbs brought out the red on lap four giving Goeden a clear track on the restart.  As the field completed lap 18, the top five were Goeden, Kertscher, Meyer, Dave Moulis and Sexton.  Meyer battled with Goeden for the second position with the spot going back and forth several times before Kertscher took it over for good on lap 23. The final yellow of the event came out on lap 38 when Brian Kristan spun right in front of the leaders setting up a green, white, checker finish.  Geoden held off Kertscher for the win with Meyer third and John Hoeni finishing third.

Much to the dismay of the dismay of the Modified drivers, track officials called their feature event after just six laps after numerous cautions.  Mike Simons started on the pole and was credited with the win.  Several of the drivers blamed the light rain that was falling for slick track conditions causing several of the incidents

The Street Stock division finished off the night with their feature event.  Cody Potter looked like the man to beat until the spinout bug hit him again, just as it had in his heat race turning the lead over to Chris Wienke.  Wienke held on to the lead until lap 11.  Jim Vandervere, running in the second spot, tried to pass Winke to the outside.  Wienke moved to block and the two made contact and both ended up in the wall.  Both cars had to head to the pits.  Kenny Netzel inherited the lead and led the final nine laps for the win.

Scott Kuxhouse won a thrilling Dean Sadowski Memorial Modified feature Saturday night at the Wilmot Speedway.  The race started with Nick Simons on the pole.  Simons wasted no time putting some distance between him and the rest of the field over the first several laps.  Kuxhouse, starting outside of row 3, quickly moved up to the second position as he got past Jason Heyerdahl on lap five.  The first yellow came out on lap seven for the Aaron Rake and Mike Conn bunching up the field.  Just one lap later, Kuxhouse was about to overtake Simons for the lead as they battled down the backstretch but Brad McGuire and Aaron Rake had tangled in turn three causing the leaders to take evasive action and bring out the yellow.  Over the next several laps, Simons car developed a problem with the left rear and on lap 16, it broke and force Simons to the pits giving the lead to Mike Bodendorfer.  On the restart, Bodendorfer also developed a mechanical problem and had problems getting up to speed and also ended up in the pits.  Eddie Lemay Jr inherited the lead and was able to hold off Kuxhouse for the next 10 laps.  Kuxhouse finally used lapped traffic to his advantage and took the lead with just two laps to go.  Lemay finished second and Jay Schranfnagel third.  In victory lane, Kuxhouse dedicated the win to his son who hit his first home run earlier in the evening.

The Outlaw Sprint feature took three times to get it going but once they did, the cars flew around the 1/3 mile oval.  Darrell Dodd took control as the cars complete lap three followed by Chris Spitz and Dave Moulis.  Moulis used the next five laps to move up to the top spot and held on for the non-stop feature win.  Dodd finished second and Spitz third.

Jim Vandereve made it two out of three in the Street Stock division.  Jason Holmes looked like he might have a chance at his first feature win as he jumped to an early advantage.  Unfortunately for Holmes, Vandervere had his car working beautifully and Holmes gave the lead up on lap five.  The best battle of the event was between a couple of teenagers, Cody Potter and Tyler Peterson, as they battled for positions three and four.  Vandervere took the checkered flag easily in front of Holmes with Peterson finishing third and Potter fourth.

In the Fearless 4 division, Dustin Richards kept his season perfect as he won the second feature in a row in 2007.  Richards started in the fifth position and methodically worked his way up to towards the front taking the lead from Tim Jendrycki on lap seven.  Richards pulled away from the rest of the field for the win with Mike Tippet finishing second and Jendrycki third.

All six regular divisions will compete next Saturday night at Wilmot Speedway.  Racing is scheduled to start at 6:30.  Contact the track office at 262-279-3892 or the track at 262-862-2446 for more information.

Race Results from June 9

The Interstate Racing Association (IRA) joined the Modifieds and Street Stock cars Saturday night at the Wilmot Speedway.  It was the Al and Marie Winker Memorial event for the sprint cars in the IRA’s second visit to Wilmot in 2007.  Donny Goeden looked to make it two for two after winning the Wayne Daun Memorial earlier this season.  The feature event got off to a slow start with Tommy Sexton spun his 83d car bringing out the yellow flag after just three laps.  The field got in just one more lap before Tim Vandervere looped his car in turn number four putting the field under caution again.  Once restarted, Goeden took control followed by “Smokin” Joe Symoens, John Hoeni and Scotty Neitzel.  Neitzel used the outside line to get past both Symoens and Hoeni over the next couple of laps and as the field completed lap number 10, the running order was Goeden, Neitzel, Mike Reinke and Symoens.  The yellow came out again on lap 14 as the 95 of Billy Warren came to a halt on the speedway.  Once restarted, the battle for second on back heated up as Neitzel, Reinke and Hoeni would swap positions several times.  Meanwhile, Goeden was able to open up a lead on the field and looked like he was going to cruise to his second Wilmot feature win of the year.  However, Kim Mock and Ty Bartz got together with just two laps remaining turning the 30 lap feature into a 2-lap shootout.  With clear track ahead of him, Goeden was able to hold off Reinke for the win with Hoeni beating Neitzel to the line for third.

A full field of Modifieds took to the track for their feature event with the front row occupied by Mike Sullivan and rookie competitor Ryan Marshall.  Marshall had problems going into turn number two after completing just one lap and collected Mike Bodendorfer, Nick Simons and Mike Conn.  All the drivers we ok but the had to go to the pits for repairs.  Conn would later return.  Over the next several laps, Mike Simons was playing with fire coming out of turn number four as he crept closer and closer to the outside retaining wall.  Trouble for him came on lap eight as he hit the wall hard enough to throw debris down the front stretch bringing out the yellow and putting him to the rear of the field.  On the restart, Sullivan led Kris Techert, Eric Scribner and Jeff Bodendorfer to the green flag.  Scribner and Bodendorfer had started 12th and 10th respectively and methodically worked their way toward the front.  Scribner took the inside line past Techert and was closing in on Sullivan when Sullivan’s machine slowed and brought out the yellow.  Unfortunately for Sullivan, he would end up watching the end of the race from the infield.  Scribner took advantage of Sullivan’s misfortune and held off Bodendorfer who finished second.  Techert finished in third and Mike Simons battled his way back to a fourth place finish.

A 12-car field took the green flag in the Street Stock feature event.  Tyler Peterson who had earlier won a heat race, took an early lead.  By lap 6, Peterson was being chased down by Jim Vandervere and Brad Norgaard. Cody Potter brought out the yellow when he spun by himself on lap seven bunching up the field.  By the time the next three laps were completed, Vandervere had worked his way past Peterson and looked like he would be a sure winner.  However, bad luck looked down on Vandervere and his car had mechanical failure on lap 12.  Due to the late hour, track officials called it a complete race and awarded the victory to Norgaard.  Gary Foster finished second and Steve Hertz third.

Dan Lococo won the blind drivers 2-lap shootout.  The four blind competitors showed that they don’t allow their blindness to stand in the way of new adventures as they drove their vehicles around the speedway while being coached by a passenger.

All six regular divisions will compete next Saturday night at Wilmot Speedway.  Racing is scheduled to start at 6:30.  Contact the track office at 262-279-3892 or the track at 262-862-2446 for more information.  Remember the month of June is Grade School Banner Month with kids creating banners for the school and competing for chance to win cash and a bicycle.

Scott Semmelman picked up his first feature win in a 410 Sprint car Saturday night at the Wilmot Speedway.  The race got off to a slow start with four yellows and one red in the first 10 laps.  Chris Spitz started on the pole with Week One winner Scott Lenz to his outside.  Those were the top two when Kirk Fehrman brought out the first yellow on lap three spinning in turn one and collecting Tommy Sexton and Jim Lukey.  Sexton and Fehrman were unable to continue.  Just one lap after restarting, the leader, Spitz, caught a rut going into turn three and flipped his number 4k and giving the lead to Lenz.  Unfortunately for Lenz, Semmlman began to pressure him on lap  seven and just one lap later Lenz pushed his number 98 just a little too hard through the corner, looped his car and came to a halt.  The final 12 laps had Semmlman battling with Darrell Dodd and Todd Heffner (subbing for Dave Moulis) with Semmelman picking up the win, Heffner second and Dodd third.

An uneventful but fast Mini-sprint feature was won by Kirt Boers.   Working his way past pole-sitter and race leader Tom Brown on lap six, Bores was able to pull away for an easy victory.  Brown finished second with Randy Reed rounding out the top three.

The 20 lap Modified main event went relatively smooth with Scott Kuxhouse becoming the second Modified driver with multiple wins in 2007.  Mike Sullivan was the leader after one lap but the lead was short-lived as mechanical problems forced him to the infield.  2005 track champion Mike Bodendorfer goy past Mike Conn on lap three but on the following circuit his drive shaft broke ending his night and giving the lead back to Conn.  Kuxhouse made a brilliant move getting past both Conn and Lee Tibbetts as they were three wide going through turns one and two on lap six.  Jeremy Olson brought out the final caution on lap 10 coming to a stop on the front stretch.  Once restarted, Kuxhouse was able to pull away as Jim Morrison methodically marched toward the front finally get the second position from Tibbetts on lap 17.  Morrison finished in second place and Tibbetts third.  Points leader Jeff Bodendorfer Jr had a rough night and finished 13th.

Probably the most popular win of the night came in the Street Stock division.  Fifteen year old Cody Potter won his first feature event outlasting the other 15 drivers.  Potter, starting in the middle of the field, completed lap one in fourth place behind Tyler Peterson, Brad Norgaard and Jason Holmes.  Peterson had trouble handling the track and started to slide backward through the field.  Taking advantage o Peterson's problems, Holmes led the field around the 1/3 mile oval for laps two through six.  Potter was able to get past Holmes on lap seven and never looked back.  Jim Vandervere looked like he might have a chance to challenge Potter, but the laps ran out before he could get to the leader.

Dale Gustum kept his 2007 season perfect as he was the first to the checkered flag in the Truck division.

Dustin Richards also stayed perfect and picked up his third feature of the year in the Fearless 4 division.  Tom Holman finished second.

Race Results from June 23

Great action Saturday night at the Wilmot Speedway resulted in several very close finishes as all six regular divisions competed on the 1/3 mile oval.  The 20 lap 410 Outlaw Sprint feature saw Scott Lenz jump out to an early lead from his front row starting position.  Tommy Sexton worked past Chris Spitz to take over the second spot on lap two and had just overtaken Lenz as the yellow came out for an incident in turn two bringing out the yellow and putting Lenz back in front.  Once the field was restarted, Sexton went to work on Lenz again and was able to use the inside line in turns one and two to take over the top spot.  Meanwhile, Todd Heffner, subbing for Dave Moulis for the second straight week, was making his way to the front moving into the third position on lap seven.  Kirk Fehrman went up and over the berm on lap 11 causing the second yellow and bunching up the field again.  On lap 13, Heffner was able to power past Sexton for the lead.  Over the final seven laps, Heffner built up a sizable lead and picked up the win with Sexton holding off the hard charging Scott Semmelmann who finished third.  Lenz held on for a fourth place finish.

Kirt Bores was looking to make it two in a row as the Mini-Sprint division took the green for their feature.  Ron Brannum, dominating the last several years in the Mini-Sprints, took the early lead followed by Kip Novotny and Dwayne Williford as they completed lap number one.  Tim Brannum brought out the only yellow of the event on lap four allowing the field to close in behind the leader.  Bores wasted no time after the restart to make his move to the front and by the end of lap six had moved up to the second spot and started to close the gap between him and Ron Brannum.  Behind him, Dwayne Williford had moved up to the third spot dropping Novotny to third.  Brannum, the race leader, slowed going into turn number one just after completing lap 10 – an apparent mechanical problem.  By the time his car got back up to speed, Bores had already moved past and was on his way to his second straight feature win.  Brannum held on for a second place finish and Tim Brannum finished third.

The Modified division got lots of practice with restarts as numerous yellows slowed the field and helped set up a fantastic finish.  Starting outside row one, Kris Techert got a great start and took the lead from pole sitter Nick Simons on the first lap.  The two would battle side by side for the first five laps when the yellow came out for Mike Wankowski making his first visit to Wilmot in 2007.  Just one lap later Jason Heyerdahl brought out the yellow again keeping the field tight.  Mike Bodendorfer got a great restart and slid past the top two cars to take the lead on lap seven becoming the third different leader in the race.  Luckily for Bodendorfer, the lap was completed before Jeremy Olson brought out the next caution.  The next two laps saw Nick Simons reclaim the second spot dropping Techert followed by Scott Kuxhouse who was slowing making his way through the field.  When Olson spun again on lap ten, the top five were Bodendorfer, Simons, Kuxhouse, Techert and Mike Sullivan.  Simons night ended on lap 13 as his hood pin broke and his hood came up forcing him to exit the speedway.  Sullivan used the inside line to inch his way past Kuxhouse for the second spot on lap 15 and set his sights on Bodendorfer.  Debris on the frontstretch on lap 16 set up the most exciting finish in the Modified division this season.  It quickly became a three-way battle for the win on the restart with Sullivan and Kuxhouse taking over the top 2 positions on lap 19 dropping Bodendorfer to third.  Going into turn 3 on the final circuit Sullivan still led Kuxhouse by a car length but got into the corner a bit too hard and slid to the outside leaving just enough room for Kuxhouse to move alongside.  Drag racing down the frontstretch, Kuxhouse barely beat Sullivan for his third feature win of the season.

Kenny Neitzel lead all but one lap of the Street Stock feature and unfortunately for him, the one he didn’t lead was the last.  Jumping out to an early lead over AJ Hedges, Neitzel looked like the one to beat.  Ten laps into the 15 lap feature, Neitzel’s lead over second running Jason Holmes was quickly shrinking.  Holmes and Jim Vandervere closed in on Neitzel and with just a couple laps to go it looked like it could be any of the three’s race to win.  On the final lap, Vandervere lost a little ground going into turn one taking him out of contention leaving it up to lead Neitzel and Holmes to battle it out.  Coming out of turn four Holmes got a better start down the straightaway and picked up the win at the line.  Neitzel finished a disappointing second and Vandervere third.

Dale Gustum made it three in a row, just as he did in 2006 enroute to the championship, in the Truck division.  It took just four laps for Gustum to take over the lead and never looked back.  Chad Ross finished third and Billy Combs third.

Tom Holman was looking for his first win in 2007 as the green flag dropped in the Fearless 4 division.  Holman wasted no time jumping to the lead but was getting pressured from series leader Dustin Richards as the field completed lap four.  Going into turn one, Holman’s car got sideways, caught the driver’s side in the dirt and started to go up and over but there wasn’t enough momentum and it came back down on all four wheels.  Richards had nowhere to go and got into Holman just a little bit causing a flat tire.  Holman had to join Richards in the pits for work and wouldn’t figure in the finish.  Their misfortune was beneficial for the rest of the field and Jeff Carlton inherited the lead.  Carlton held off Shawn Kasten for the win.  Kasten finished second and Tim Jendrycki third.

All six regular divisions will compete next Saturday night at Wilmot Speedway.  Racing is scheduled to start at 6:30.  Contact the track office at 262-279-3892 or the track at 262-862-2446 for more information.  It will also have the finals of the Grade School Banners with qualified kids competing for prizes.  Coming up in the month of July will be pastor racing with pastors from local churches competing for the chance to race in the finals August 4th.

Donny Goeden finished second in the A-Main for the Interstate Racing Association Saturday night at the Wilmot Speedway but celebrated as the King of Wisconsin!  With two first place finishes to go along with the second place finish Goeden beat out defending King of Wisconsin Mike Rienke and the rest of the IRA competitors to win the title.  In the A-Main event, John Haeni looked very strong in the early going leading Steve Meyer, Chad Blonde and Kurt Winker for the first 10 laps.  The yellow came out for the only time of the event during lap 10 for the Dave Moulis machine.  The yellow would prove costly for Hoeni but opportunistic for Blonde.  On the restart, Blonde looked like a different car and easily got past both Meyer and Hoeni on the first lap after going back to green flag action.  Goeden got himself into the top four on lap 15 after working his way around the #85 of Meyer.  Winker dropped a position to Goeden on lap 20 falling to the fourth spot.  Goeden continued moving up as he got past Hoeni on lap 21.  However, Blonde continued to pull away over the final nine laps and finished with about a seven-second lead over second place Goeden.  Haeni finished in third and Kurt Davis fourth.

In the Modified division, Mike Bodendorfer led his brother Jeff to the finish line as they finished 1-2 for the first Bodendorfer feature win of the year.  Last week’s feature winner, Nick Simons, took an early lead from his front row starting position.  However, by lap four, Mike Bodendorfer was on his rear bumper and putting on the pressure.  It only took Bodendorfer two laps to get past Simons and started putting some distance between him and the rest of the field.  Mike Conn, in his best run of the season, also got past Simons on lap six and was still holding the spot as the field passed the half way of the event.  Jeff Bodendorfer was the car on the move and went from fifth to second over the course of laps 11-15 and set sail after his brother.  However, the younger Bodendorfer had built up too big of a lead and there weren’t enough laps left for Jeff to catch Mike relegating Jeff to the runner-up position.  Jim Morrison finished in third, Jason Heyerdahl and Mike Conn faded to a respectable fifth.

Tyler Peterson made it two in a row in the Street Stock division as the teenager overcame adversity to pick up the checkered flag.  After two laps it looked like the young guns Peterson and Cody Potter would battle it out as they opened up a quick lead on the rest of the field.  However, when the yellow came out on lap seven for Bruce Laubinger, Peterson went to the pits but made it back out before the green flag dropped keeping him on the lead lap but putting in to the rear of the field.  Potter had his problems handling his number 57 and fell several positions on lap 11.  Peterson, however, looked like a seasoned veteran and patiently worked his way past the slower cars and was up to second place behind Kenny Neitzel by lap 12.  Neitzel had his own problems coming out of turn four and he too fell several positions giving the lead to Peterson.  Peterson kept the car under control for the final eight laps to pick up his second consecutive win.  Steve Podratz finished the race in second with Potter recovering for third.

Come see all six regular divisions compete next Saturday night at Wilmot Speedway.  Racing is scheduled to start at 6:30.  Contact the track office at 262-279-3892 or the track at 262-862-2446 for more information.

Mike Bodendorfer picked the right night to win his second feature of 2007 Saturday night at the Wilmot Speedway.  Bodendorfer outran the large field of Modifieds to take home the $800 first prize and Round 2 of the Modified Triple Crown.  Ryan Marshall started on the pole and got a great start at the drop of the green to take the lead.  However, Kris Techert battled back and took the top spot from Marshall on lap four.  Jeff Bodendorfer, who earlier won his heat race, was on the move from his 10th starting position and worked past BG Wood, Lee Tibbetts and Mike Conn to get control of the third spot by lap five and appeared to be on his way to his first feature win.  Marshall and Techert swapped the lead several times over the next several laps while the two Bodendorfer brothers, Jeff and Mike, battled for third.  Mike would get by Jeff on lap 12 and on lap 13 made his way past Marshall.  Techert did his best to hold him off, trying to keep his number 11 glued to the bottom, but the pressure from Bodendorfer pushed him to the outside and Techert surrendered the lead.  Behind him, point’s leader Scott Kuxhouse was locked in a spirited battle with Jeff Bodendorfer with Kuxhouse getting the better of the battle on lap 23 dropping Bodendorfer to a respectable fourth place finish.  Techert finished second with Kuxhouse third.

In the 410 Outlaw Sprint division, Dave Moulis was trying to take the number 01 car to victory lane for the fourth time in five weeks but had his work cut out for himself starting inside of row four.  Jereme Schroeder, looking for his first feature win in three years, jumped out to an early lead from his outside, row one starting position ahead of Rusty Egan and pole sitter Kris Spitz.  Todd Lehr, joining the 410s for the first time in 2007, followed Egan around the speedway in the third position.  Moulis, patiently worked his way toward the front passing Johhny Fahl and Kris Spitz moving into the top four on lap 15.  Frank Moser brought out the on lap 17 just as Schroeder was starting to lap the slower cars.  Lining up the field for the green, the lapped cars elected to go to the rear of the field leaving it up to the top five to battle it out with clear track in front of them.  Moulis wasted no time getting past Spitz and started closing the gap between himself and Schroeder.  As the checkered flag flew for Schroeder, Moulis was right on his back bumper.  Schroeder couldn’t wait to get out of his car to celebrate his first feature win in victory lane.  Moulis finished a disappointing second with Kris Spitz third and Mike Dubs fourth.

Combining for three of seven feature wins this season, teenagers Cody Potter, Tyler Peterson and Bob Waltho Jr took to the speedway looking for number four in the Street Stock division.  Potter, starting on the pole, took the early lead ahead of Brad Norgaard and Peterson.  Peterson, having won the last two features, worked past Norgaard on lap two and Potter on lap three to look like the one to beat.  However, Kenny Neitzel brought out the yellow before the next lap was completed giving the lead back to Potter.  Potter, plagued by spins all season, pushed his car just a little bit too hard through turns three and four on lap five and came to a halt in the corner relegating himself to the tail end of the field.  Meanwhile, Gary Foster, starting inside row three was quietly working his way to the front and on lap seven nosed his number 82 past Peterson for his first lead of the night.  Peterson tried to battle back but was unable to regain the lead and ended up dropping a position when Jim Vandervere got past him with just three laps remaining.  That was how the race ended with Foster picking up the win, Vandervere second and Peterson third.

Ron Brannum came to the track Saturday night looking for his second in a row and third overall feature win in 2007.  He wasted no time getting to the front and on lap four took command when he got past Tom Brown.  The rest of the field stretched out behind him with Brown finishing second and point’s leader Kirt Bores third.  In victory lane, Brannum said “This was so much fun.  We’ve got to get more people out here in these cars.”  He also thanked the fans in attendance and challenged them to bring 2-3 friends next week.

In a yellow-filled Truck feature Dale Gustum looked to become the first four-time winner in 2007 starting in row three.  Billy Combs took his turn in the front when the green flag dropped as he crossed the finish line ahead of Steven Johnson and Tom Toss.  Jennifer Durham came to a halt bringing out the first yellow on lap four and on the restart, Vincent Merry ended up stuck on top of one of the infield tires bringing out the caution again.  Once restarted, Gustum continued his charge to the front and when the field completed lap seven, he was second behind Combs and in front of Tom Ross.  The drivers would bump and battle over the next several laps with a lot of paint trading between them.  When Combs spun in front of the Ross and Gustum on lap ten, his time at the front was over and left it up to Gustum, Ross and Vincent Merry to battle it out for the win.  Ross took out Merry going through turn three on the next circuit and he had to go to the back.  Merry got his spot back but was unable to track down Gustum and settled for second place with Gustum picking up his fourth win in 2007.  Tom Ross used the final couple of laps to get all the way back to a third place finish ahead of William Urban.

The Fearless Fours were also looking for a Four-time winner.  Dustin Richards, with three wins already, started in row three.  The four cars in front of him were of no match as by lap three he already was in the first position.  Gary Mondus tried to hold of Tom Homan in the second spot but Homan got past on lap six dropping Mondus to third.  That was the way they would finish with Richards getting his fourth win, Homan second and Mondus third.

All six regular divisions compete again next Saturday night at Wilmot Speedway plus the first week of “Pastor Racing”.  Racing is scheduled to start at 6:30.  Contact the track office at 262-279-3892 or the track at 262-862-2446 for more information.

Race Results from July 21

The fans at the Wilmot Speedway were treated to a couple of fantastic finishes Saturday night.  Tommy “Mr Excitement” Sexton lived up to his name as he pulled out a last lap victory in the 410 Outlaw Sprint feature.  Starting inside of row six, Sexton had to work quickly to move up through the field in the 20 lap headliner for the sprints.  Todd Lehr used a great start to beat polesitter Todd Heffner to the line on lap number one.  Mike Dubs, an earlier heat race winner, held onto the third spot.  The yellow came out on lap four for Dave Maynard bunching up the field.  By the time the field completed lap five, Sexton was already in the top five.  Heffner had grabbed the lead back from Lehr on the restart after the Maynard caution and started to pull away.  As Lehr started to fade, Dubs also dropped him a position and set his sights on Heffner.  Meanwhile, Sexton used the top side to get past Scott Semmelmann and Lehr.  The biggest break of the night for Sexton came on lap 12 as a yellow came out for debris in turn three allowing him to bunch up behind Heffner and Dubs.  It took just two laps for Sexton to get past Dubs for second following the restart.  Heffner looked like he had a big enough lead with just six laps to go, but Sexton immediately started closing the gap.  With just two laps to go Sexton was in striking distance and the crowd started to sense a photo finish.  As the field began the final lap, Sexton was right on Heffner’s rear bumper and going down the backstretch the two cars were side by side.  Heffner had just enough of a bobble in the final corner to give Sexton the room he needed and Sexton took full advantage of it to beat Heffner to the stripe.  Dubs finished third and Semmelman fourth.

Nick Sheridan had the perfect starting position for the Mini-Sprint feature as he started outside of row one.  Sheridan, running the high side all night, was in control until lap nine when he faltered coming out of turn two and allowed Tom Brown just enough room on the inside to get past for the lead.  The following lap, Ron Brannum was also able to get past Sheridan and it looked like he might have enough to track down Brown.  However, bad luck again plagued Brannum and on lap 14, his number 01 started to slow.  Unfortunately for Sheridan, he also had mechanical problems had had to pull to the infield.  Brown held on for the win going away and Brannum held off Tim Brannum for second.

In the longest feature of the night, in time but not laps, the Modifieds were only able to get in six green flag laps before track officials called the event due to time limits.  Tim Morton, the eventual winner, had the luck of being on the pole at the start of the race and led the first three laps before the first caution came out for Nick Simons.  On the restart, Jeff Bodendorfer and BG Woods got together coming out of turn two spinning Bodendorfer and bringing out another caution.  The next time through turn two under green conditions looked like a parking lot.  Dave Holden went around at the front of the field causing a number of drivers including Scott Kuxhouse, Woods, Bodendorfer, Mike Simons and others to come to a halt.  All the drivers involved got sent to the rear with the exception of Woods and Bodendorfer.  Larry Walter Jr went around on the next attempt at restarting the race and Steve Nicholas and Dave Holden brought out the yellow flag again after just one more completed lap.  When Holden went around again on lap six, officials called it a night and awarded the win to Morton who was leading at the time.

The Street Stock feature was marred by a scary looking incident at the end of the back stretch.  Kenny Neitzel had problems getting through turn two on lap three and ended up going through the infield down the back stretch.  When he tried to get back onto the racing surface, he over corrected and ended up spinning his number 83 and came to a halt across the track with the driver side facing oncoming traffic.  Rick Corso had to take evasive action and came to a halt in turn three.  However, Marty Meehan wasn’t able to avoid Neitzel and hit him head on in the driver’s door.  The safety team had to help Neitzel out the passenger side and took him to the ambulance for observation.  Once the race got started again, Jim Vandervere started to close the gap between himself and front running Potter.  Potter wobbled on lap seven and Vandervere took advantage of the opportunity and got past Potter for the lead.  A muffler on the front stretch brought out the caution on lap 10 bunching up the field.  Jason Holmes used a great jump on the restart to take over second from Potter.  Bruce Laubinger worked past Potter on lap 17 and that’s the way the field would end up with Vandervere picking up another feature win, Holmes second and Laubinger third.

Dale Gustom picked up his fifth feature win in the Truck division.  However, for the first eight laps it looked like Steven Johnson might be able to hold off Gustom.  Unfortunately, mechanical problems ended Johnson’s night and Gustom ran off with the win.  Tom Ross finished second and Vincent Merry third.

In the other close finish, Tom Homan used a great last lap pass to take away win number five from Dustin Richards in the feature for the Fearless 4s.  Homan, starting well back in the field, quickly worked his way toward the front and was already running third on lap five behind Richards and Shawn Kasten.  Kasten was able to hold Homan off until a flat tire sent him to the pits on lap 11 turning second over to Homan.  It looked like Richards was going to be able to hold off Homan, but in a brilliant move in turns three and four on the final time around, Homan pushed Richards to the outside and beat him to the line for his second win in 2007.

Another Saturday night at the Wilmot Speedway and another last lap pass for the win in the 410 Outlaw Sprints.  For the second Saturday in a row, the 410 Outlaw Sprint feature came down to the last lap and a pass in the final turn deciding the winner.  Todd Heffner, subbing again for Dave Moulis in the Darrell Dodd owned number 01, started the 20 lap feature outside of row two.  Scott Lenz, the event’s pole sitter jumped out to a quick lead over Don Durham and Darrell Dodd at the drop of the green.  By lap four, the field had started to stretch out and Scott Semmelmann had worked past both Dodd and Durham to take over the second position.  Heffner, working the outside of the track used the next four laps to get past Durham and Dodd.  Durham would fade over the last half of the event and finished seventh.  Lenz and Semmelmann would battle hard until Semmelmann was able to overtake Lenz on lap 15 and looked like he’d pick up his second feature win of 2007.  Lenz was able to hold off Heffner for just two more laps.  As lap 17 completed, it was Semmelmann with about a 6 car lead over Heffner and Lenz.  Heffner quickly closed the gap and as the final lap began he was right on the rear bumper of Semmelmann.  Going down the backstretch they were side by side battling for position going into turn three.  Heffner had the edge as they entered the front straight and beat Semmelmann to the line by about a foot.  Lenz finished in third and Darrell Dodd fourth.

Kirt Bores went into the night the point’s leader in the Mini-Sprint division looking to put some distance between himself and second place Tim Brannum.  Bores had a great starting position as he started outside the front row.  He wasted no time jumping to the top spot by and as the field completed lap one it looked like he was positioned for the win.  However, Ron Brannum and Nick Sheridan had other thoughts as they held their own and didn’t allow Bores to pull away.  When Bores bobbled on lap three, Brannum was able to move in front and take the lead.  Bores battled back and just four laps later took the lead back and held on for the win.  Sheridan in his best race of the year, also got past Brannum and actually closed in on Bores but ran out of laps and finished second.

The third feature of the night kept the night moving along by going green to checker without a caution.  Bruce Laubinger, starting in the preferred outside front row starting position, was first across the line on lap one followed by Cody Potter and Brad Norgaard.  Potter was able to stick his nose under Laubinger on lap four and take the lead.  Current point’s leader, Tim Vandervere, went around on lap five and exited to the pits without bringing out the yellow.  Potter held off Laubinger for his second win of his career with Steve Hertz finishing in the third position and Norgaard fourth.

Taking to the speedway following the Street Stocks were the Modifieds.  Looking to atone for their shortened feature last Saturday night the whole field got through lap one successfully with Mike Sullivan leading the way.  However, the first yellow of the feature events came out on lap two for Scott Kuxhouse, Mike Bodendorfer and Jason Heyerdahl and putting them all to the rear.  Jeff Bodendorfer, second in points between Kuxhouse and Mike Bodendorfer looked like he’d be able to help himself in the point’s race as he was about 10 positions ahead at the restart.  However, the situation changed quickly when Heyerdahl and Steve Nicholas tangled in turn two on lap three.  As the yellow was coming out, Jeff Bodendorfer and Tim Morton made heavy contact in turn three.  Bodendorfer would have gotten his position back had he been able to continue, but the damage was such that he had to go to the pits.  He would later return for a few laps before retiring to the pits and finishing in 19th.  The field got in just two more laps before Nick Simons coasted to a stop bringing out another caution.  On the restart it was Sullivan followed by Ryan Marshall and Mike Simons.  Marshall unfortunately lost the handle on his number 37 just four laps later brining out the final caution of the event.  Jim Morrison, patiently working his way through traffic restarted lap nine in the third spot.  Sullivan surrendered the lead to Simons on lap 11 and one lap later developed a flat tire and had to retire to the infield.  That opened the door for Morrison to take off after Simons.  Going into turn one on lap 18, Morrison stuck his nose right under Simons and forced him to the outside.  Morrison took advantage of the move and moved out in front of Simons going down the back stretch.  Simons tried to get under Morrison and return the favor but Morrison had too much of a lead.  Mike Conn, in his best race of the year also got past Simons using the inside line on lap 19.  Morrison picked up his first feature win in about a year with Conn second and Simons third.

Vincent Merry came to the Wilmot Speedway looking for a win in the truck division to celebrate his birthday.  He must have made the right wish because he picked up his first win of the year.  Tom Ross, starting outside of Merry in row two overtook William Urban on lap two for the lead but lost his muffler on lap three.  Track officials determined that he would be able to continue the race but due to his truck bringing out the caution he had to restart on the rear giving the lead back to Urban.  Merry and Steve Johnson worked past Urban on lap six taking over positions one and two respectively.  An incident involving point’s leader Dale Gustum and Andrew Yeates on lap nine brought out the final yellow and bunching up the field.  Merry was able to lead the final 3 laps followed by Steve Johnson and Gustum who quickly worked his way back toward the front.

The Fearless 4s, in the final event of the evening, were the fourth feature to go without a caution as Dustin Richards easily picked up his fifth win of the season and close the gap in the points chase.  Tom Homan, the points leader, finished second and Tim Jendricki third.

The Badger Midgets make their only visit to the Wilmot Speedway next Saturday night. They will be joined by the Modifieds, Street Stocks and Mini-Sprints.  It will also be Round 3 of the Modified Triple Crown sponsored by Roy’s Auto Service with $800 to win.  Racing is scheduled to start at 6:30.  Contact the track office at 262-279-3892 or the track at 262-862-2446 for more information.

Chad DeSelle edged Michael Pickens by one-car length to win the 30-lap Badger Midget Series feature, Saturday Night at Wilmot Speedway. DeSelle jumped into the lead at the start, however, three cautions for minor incidents during the first five laps kept the field bunched up. During the first five laps Pickens moved from eighth starting position to fourth. On the lap 5 restart DeSelle pulled away from the field and began increasing his lead each lap. The battle for second place was intense between Mike Hess, Nick Lundgreen, Pickens and Scott Hatton. On the lap five restart, DeSelle opened up his lead again. Hatton was able to take over second from Hess on lap 21, but hit the second turn wall causing the events final caution. One lap after the restart, Pickens moved past Hess into second place. With DeSelle using the lower groove, Pickens ran the high side. Pickens used a great run off turn four to take the lead with just five laps to go, but DeSelle regained the lead exiting turn two. The final five laps saw Pickens make several attempts at DeSelle for the lead, but each one fell short. DeSelle crossed the finish line first with Pickens right behind.

Mike Dubs, starting on the pole, decided he liked being first and figured he’d stay there for the duration of the 410 Outlaw Sprint feature and picked up his first-ever feature win.  The field got in just four laps before the caution came out for an incident involving several of the top five cars in turn number four.  That allowed Darrell Dodd to move up to the second position behind Dubs for the restart.  At the completion of lap eight the top five were Dubs, Dodd, Pat Haynes, Jereme Schroeder and Dave Moulis.  Moulis used the next five laps to move past Haynes and Schroeder to take over the third position.  A couple of yellows over the next few laps kept the field bunched up.  Following the restart on lap 14, Moulis was able to get past Dodd and took off after Dubs looking to make it two in a row for the number 01.  Unfortunately for Moulis, the laps ran out and Dubs picked up the win.  Tommy Sexton used some late lap passes to finish in the third spot with Dodd finishing fourth.

John Draper made his first visit to Wilmot in 2007 and made the most of the trip with his Mini-Sprint.  At the start of the feature, Tim Brannum took the lead in front of Nick Sheridan, Tom Brown and Ron Brannum.  On lap six, Ron Brannum hurt his chances at another feature win when he went around while running second.  By lap six, Draper had worked his way up to the second position behind Tim Brannum and ahead of Sheridan and Brown.  Draper used a miscue by Brannum on lap 10 and went by on the inside to take the lead.  Draper never looked back and was first to the checker.  Brannum finished second and Brown third.

In a feature shortened by three laps, Mike Sullivan picked up Round Three of the Modified Triple Crown and the $800 first prize.  Starting outside the front row, Sullivan wasted no time getting to the front and would never relinquish the lead.  However, the action behind him was fast and furious.  Mike Bodendorfer and Mike Simons got together on lap four putting them both to the rear. Simons would have other mechanical problems and would be credited with last.  The yellow came out again on lap seven for an incident involving BG Woods, Kris Techert and John Dost coming out of turn two.  The caution trend continued on lap ten for Dost and Tim Morten.  The restart had Sullivan at the front followed by Ryan Marshall and Mike Conn.  Woods brought out the yellow again on lap 12 and headed right to the pits.  Marshall and Conn would put on a great battle for the next several laps with Conn finally getting by Marshall on lap 16.  Marshall spun on his own on lap 17 ending his bid for the win.  The field was informed that the next yellow would end the event due to curfew rules and they took it to heart getting in the most green flag laps of the event.  However, on lap 22, Everett Fitch came to a halt on the track and track officials called it a finish.  Sullivan was credited with the win.  Conn, in his best finish of 2007, came home second and points leader Scott Kuxhouse finished third.

The Street Stock feature ended up being a father/son battle as Landry and Cody Potter duked it out over the final laps with son Cody besting dad.  Brad Norgaard led the first two laps ahead of Tyler Peterson and Jim Vandervere.  Vandervere, used a great move down the backstretch to get by both Peterson and Norgaard before lap three was completed and was running first when the yellow came out for Peterson on lap four.  Landry Potter and Vandervere bumped and banged each other hard battling for the lead after the restart.  Potter was able to get by Vandervere on lap six and looked like a strong candidate for the win.  However, Cody had different ideas and when the green flag dropped for a restart on lap seven, he was right behind second place Vandervere.  Unfortunately for Vandevere, he went around all by himself the next lap and had to go to the tail for the restart.  That put Cody right behind his dad.  The father and son pair ran clean until Cody was able to work his way by on the inside on lap 12.  Landry developed a flat tire but was able to limp his Street Stock number 18 to a second place finish.

The veteran Tom Ross picked up another feature win in the Sport Truck race.  With just one caution bunching up the field on lap six, Ross was able to pull away from heat winner Steve Johnson and Dale Gustum for the win.

In a night where the “advanced classes” had their trouble with the 1/3 mile oval at Wilmot, the Fearless 4s showed them how to run a non-stop feature with Tom Homan picking up his third win of the year.

Due to the Kenosha County Fair this week, there will be no Saturday night racing.  However, the Wisconsin Dirt Late Model Association, along with the Wilmot Modifieds take to the track on Thursday night, August 16.  Racing is scheduled to start at 6:30.  The following night, the Interstate Racing Association makes their final appearance at Wilmot in 2007.  Contact the track office at 262-279-3892 or the track at 262-862-2446 for more information.

Oklahoma's' Wayne Johnson took home the top prize at the Kenosha County Fair by topping the Bumper to Bumper IRA 410 Outlaw Sprints headliner. Johnson, fresh off another impressive run at the Knoxville Nationals, brought Al Christoffers' FattFro 14 to the front on lap eight of the thirty lapper to claim the $2500 Fair Prize in front of a huge crowd.

Donny Goeden led the first seven circuits rim-riding the tacky third-mile. Johnson dove underneath Goeden as the pair raced down the back chute to take the lead. Despite a few restarts Johnson was able to hold off the recently crowned King of Wisconsin to claim the win. In IRAs' four Wilmot visits this year Goeden has two wins to his credit as he claimed the Wayne Daun Memorial back in May, then the Al & Marie Winker Memorial in June. Goeden ran second to Chad Blonde back in July, and now added another strong runner up finish as IRA completes its' four scheduled 2007 race dates at Wilmot.

Several drivers had several lap stints running third including Ricky Logan, Darrell Dodd, and Dave Moulis. However after Logan spun himself out, John Haeni continued his charge towards the front and took the final show honors continuing his strong second half season surge.

Thirteenth starting Scott Biertzer drove an outstanding race to claim fourth over series point leader Travis Whitney. Second starting Scott Uttech came home sixth over strong drive by Mike Reinke, while Moulis, Logan, and Dodd completed the top ten in the ultra competitive event.

Todd Lehr in his best IRA showing in many years was running just outside the top ten when he took a wild ride down the front stretch with only two laps remaining following contact with Ryan Irwin and Logan as they battled for position.

Past two-time IRA Champion Kim Mock suffered a broken arm, broken rib, and punctured lung in a nasty looking flip down the back chute during his heat as the charging Mock was unable to avoid an incident transpiring in front of him.

Johnson out qualified the forty car field, while heat wins went to Whitney, Moulis, Bill Warren, and Reinke. Steve Meyer and Irwin each captured a B-main.

August 26, 2007 For the third time this season, a substitute driver picked up a feature win in the 410 Outlaw Sprint division at the Wilmot Speedway.  This time it was Tommy Sexton driving for Todd Lehr who was injured in an accident last Friday night during the IRA show at Wilmot.  Sexton agreed to drive for Lehr and made the most of the opportunity.  Kris Spitz, starting on the pole, jumped out to an early lead but it was short-lived.  Darrell Dodd, starting outside of the front row, got past Spitz on lap two.  Sexton would also get by Spitz a couple of laps later followed by the 01 of Dave Moulis dropping Spitz to fourth.  Scott Semmelmann would drop Spitz to fifth on lap six.  Dodd was able to hold off Sexton for the next seven laps.  Just as the leaders were starting to lap the back of the field, Johhny Fahl came to a stop and brought out the yellow.  With a clear track in front of him following the restart, it looked like Dodd would be able to hold off Sexton.  However, on lap 16, Dodd drifted just a little bit too far to the outside in turn two and Sexton dove to the inside and got past for the lead.  A caution caused by Don Durham set up a green-white-checker finish but Sexton was never seriously challenged and picked up the win.  Dodd finished second, Moulis third and Semmelmann fourth.

Mike “Sully” Sullivan picked up his second win in a row in the Modified division holding off Jeff Bodendorfer Jr for the win.  Sullivan had the perfect starting position, the pole, and never relinquished the top position.  Behind him though, the action was hot and heavy!  The completion of lap one saw Sullivan followed by Lee Tibbetts and Nick Simons.  Simons had problems on lap four and dropped about seven positions as they completed the lap.  Scott Kuxhouse, the current points leader, was up to the third position behind Sullivan and Tibbetts as the first caution of the event came out for Bobby Parker and Mike Wittenburg on lap four.  Kuxhouse made a huge mistake on lap nine that cost him four spots and any chance of the win.  Taking advantage of Kuxhouse’s mistake, Jeff Bodendorfer moved up to the third spot followed by Jim Morrison and Nick Simons.  Bodendorfer worked his way past Tibbetts on lap 13 and tried to chase down Sullivan but ran out of laps.

Picking up his third feature win in the Street Stock Division was Tyler Peterson.  Jason Holmes, who had earlier picked up a heat race win, jumped right out to the lead at the drop of the green flag followed by Ray Underwood and Peterson.  Peterson used the low side to work past Underwood on lap five.  A fire in the Kevin Henderson number 96 on lap nine brought out the red flag.  Henderson was unhurt in the incident.  On the restart, Peterson was able to slide under Holmes for the top spot.  Steve Hertz and Cody Potter was also able to get past Holmes and by lap 11, the running order was Peterson, Hertz, Potter and Holmes.  The final yellow came out for AJ Hedges coming to a stop in turn three with just 2 laps remaining.  Peterson finished the last two laps without incident and picked up the win.

In a non-stop Truck feature, Tom Ross picked up another win in front of points leader Dale Gustum and Vincent Merry.  Steve Johnson started the event from the second starting position and was able to hold off the field until lap eight when Ross took over the lead.  Johnson would fade and was credited with a sixth place finish.

Dustin Richards visited victory lane for the sixth time in 2007 after winning the Fearless 4 feature.  It took just two laps for Richards to go from his fifth place starting spot to the lead and never looked back.  Tim Jendrycki finished second and Tom Homan third.

The action continues next Saturday night as the Modifieds, Mini-Sprints, Street Stock, Trucks and Fearless 4s take to the 1/3 mile oval.  Racing is scheduled to start at 6:30.  Also on the schedule is a penny pickup for the kids! Race Results from September 1

Great racing and few cautions made for a quick evening Saturday night at the Wilmot Speedway.  On a night when the stands were filled with families, the drivers put on a “family friendly” show and the last race ended early enough that everyone could go back in the pits, mingle with the drivers and still get the kids home to bed at a reasonable hour.

Lee Tibbetts jumped out to the lead on lap one of the Modified feature but was overtaken by Everett Fitch on lap number two.  Fitch’s lead was short-lived as Tibbetts took it back on lap three.  Jim Morrison, who was slicing though traffic with little effort, took over on lap four.  When Kris Techert brought out the first of just three cautions on lap six, Morrison lost the lead he was already expanding.  Jeff Bodendorfer, starting outside his brother in row four, moved past Tibbetts on lap seven to take over second.  Mike Bodendorfer developed a flat right front tire on lap ten and coasted to a stop at the start of the front stretch bringing out caution number two.  He would hustle to the pits and got it fixed before the green dropped again to stay on the lead lap.  On the restart, Morrison again began pulling away from Jeff Bodendorfer.  As the laps started to wind down, the battle for second on back heated up with Jeff Bodendorfer, Tibbetts, Scott Kuxhouse and Mike Conn all getting into it.  An incident involving Mike Wittenburg and Tim Bell on lap 19 set up a green, white, checker finish.  As Morrison crossed the finish line to pick up the win, Jeff Bodendorfer, Tibbetts, Kuxhouse and Conn all got together between turns three and four and cost them top 10 finishes.  The beneficiaries of the incident included Mike Simons and Ryan Marshall who finished second and third respectively.  Tim Morton and Jason Heyerdahl rounded out the top five.  The win was Morrison’s second of the season

Ron Brannum took the lead from Nick Sheridan on lap 10 and never looked back as he easily won the Mini-Sprint feature.  Sheridan faded over the last 10 laps and finished fifth.  Tom Brown finished second, Tim Brannum third and Kirt Bores fourth.

Looking for his first win of 2007, Bruce Laubinger led from the drop of the green and held off the rest of the Street Stock field picking up the win.  Jason Holmes looked like he might challenge for the top spot but was never able to mount a serious challenge.  Cody Potter, one of two teenagers in the field, finished third and Steve Podratz fourth.

The Truck feature ended with the same top three as the heat race with Vincent Merry picking up the win in front of Steve Johnson and Tom Ross.  Johnson was able to hold off Merry until lap five when Merry got by and took over the lead.  With the win, Merry moved into third place in the points standings behind Dale Gustum and Ross.

Dustin Richards picked up his seventh win of the year in the Fearless 4 division.  Ryan Andrew looked like he might be able to hold off Richards until lap seven when he drifted too far to the outside and allowed Richards to get by on the inside.  Richards picked up the win adding a few points to his season points lead over Tom Homan who finished third.

The action continues next Saturday night as the 410 Outlaw Sprints have their season championship and are joined by the Modifieds, Street Stocks, Trucks and Fearless 4s.  Racing is scheduled to start at 6:30.  Also coming to the track are Vintage IRA cars and drivers celebrating track championships from the past.  Contact the track office at 262-279-3892 or the track at 262-862-2446 for more information.

Race Results from September 8

September 8, 2007 Saturday night marked the end of the season for the 410 Outlaw Sprint and the Mini-Sprint divisions at the Wilmot Speedway.  Scott Semmelmann wrapped the 2007 season as the 410 Outlaw Sprint Champion in just his first year in a 410 car and Kirt Bores picked up the Mini-Sprint title.

The feature event for the 410 Outlaw Sprint cars started out with Scott Lenz jumping right to the lead on lap one followed by Kris Spitz and Johnny Fahl.  Tommy Sexton, running fifth at the end of the first lap, got past both Kirk Fehrman and Fahl on the following lap to take over the third spot.  It took Sexton just two more laps to move in front of Spitz for second.  Dave Moulis was also on the move and had taken over the fourth spot as the field completed lap four.  Lenz was able to hold off Sexton until they came upon lapped traffic around lap 13.  The lapped traffic allowed Sexton and Moulis to close the gap and get right on Lenz’s back bumper.  Sexton was the first to get around some of the traffic and was the new race leader on lap 14.  Moulis however, used the slower cars to his advantage and became the third different leader on lap 15.  The fans were cheering them on as Sexton battled back and regained the lead the following lap.  Sexton was able to hold Moulis for the remaining 14 laps and three restarts to pick up the win.  Lenz spun out by himself on lap 25 costing him a top five finish eventually finishing ninth.  Mike Dubs finished third and Kris Spitz fourth.  Semmelmann, the points leader going into the feature, exited with a mechanical problem after just one lap.  However, he had a big enough lead in points that he still picked up the season crown.  In victory lane afterward, Semellmann said he wasn’t sure what broke but that it almost shook him right out of the car.

For the second week in a row, the Modified feature ended with a melee coming out of turn four on the final lap.  The even had an ominous start as Larry Marshall ended up on his side bringing out the red flag in turn two just after getting the green flag.  Marshall was ok but done for the night.  Once the race was restarted, Nick Simons took the lead in front of Ryan Marshall and Lee Tibbetts.  The field got in just three laps before the red came out again, this time for a fire in the engine compartment of Steve Nicholas’ number 59 on the backstretch.  A problem with Simon’s number 24 took him to the pits and Mike Bodendorfer also headed to the pits with no brakes.  Bodendorfer would return to the race and stay on the lead lap.  Tibbetts, restarted the race in the top spot in front of Ryan Marshall and Kris Techert.  Jim Morrison was able to slice and dice his way through traffic and got past Tibbetts on lap eight.  At the end of lap 13, the top five were Morrison, Tibbetts, Scott Kuxhouse, Mike Conn and Jeff Bodendorfer Jr.  A caution for Mike Bodendorfer on lap 17 set up a three lap shootout.  Track officials noticed the left rear tire of Jeff Bodendorfer’s car going down but allowed him to stay out.  As the cars went through turn four for the final time, Bodendorfer got out of shape and was tagged by BG Wood scattering the field.  Once the dust settled, Wood and Jeff Bodendorfer had fallen out of the top 10.  Unofficially, the two Bodendorfers are now tied for second in the points standing behind Kuxhouse.  Morrison picked his second feature in a row followed by Kuxhouse and Tibbetts.

John Draper picked up his second feature win of the year in the Mini-Sprint division.  Draper held off Kirt Bores for the win, but Bores picked up the season championship.  Ron Brannum finished third and Nick Sheridan fourth.

The Street Stock feature also had it’s share of controversy at the end.  It started innocently enough with Jason Holmes jumping out to the lead followed by Cody Potter and Ray Underwood.  Potter was able to get past Holmes on lap five and points leader Jim Vandervere had himself up to the third spot.  Vandervere would eventually get past Holmes for second.  Around lap 14 of the 20 lap feature, what appeared to be smoke or steam started coming out from under the hood of Potter’s number 57.  As the laps wound down, the smoke continued to get worse and the only question was whether or not Potter’s car would make it to the end.  On the final lap the yellow came out for Rick Corso’s number 1F setting up a green, white checker finish.  The controversy stemmed from whether or not the checker should have come out or if the race should go under caution and restarted.  Track officials determined that the yellow came out and there would be a two lap race to the win.  After the restart, Potter’s car started slowing noticeably and the race became one between Vandervere and Holmes.  Holmes took advantage of the inside line and forced Vandervere to the outside and beat him to the line for the win.  Following the conclusion of the night’s races, track officials met with the Street Stock division and it was determined that the checkered flag had actually come out for Potter the first time followed immediately by the yellow.  The race should have ended at that time, but since the final two laps were re-run, it was agreed that both Potter and Holmes would be credited with a win and pick up the points for a first place finish.

The action continues next Saturday night as the Sport Trucks and Fearless 4s have their season championship and are joined by the Modifieds and Street Stocks.  Racing is scheduled to start at 6:30.  Contact the track office at 262-279-3892 or the track at 262-862-2446 for more information.

Race Results from September 15

September 15, 2007 Scott Kuxhouse, Cody Potter and Dale Gustum and Dustin Richards all took major steps in securing their respective points championships Saturday night at the Wilmot Speedway.  All four drivers either led the points chase or were in second place going into the evening’s racing action.

The Modified feature event got off to a scary start as a major incident involving a number cars happened in turn two on the first lap.  Jeremey Olson, the pole sitter, got a bit sideways coming out of turn two and the melee happened as cars slammed on the brakes or swerved to avoid him.  Lee Tibbetts got the worst of it as he got way up on two tires but luckily didn’t go over all the way.  Also involved were Scott Kuxhouse, Mike Simons and Jim Morrison.  Morrison, Olson and Tibbetts went directly to the pits but Kuxhouse and Simons were able to continue.  Simons would later have major problems and his night would end early as well.  On the restart, Tim Bell took the lead in front of Mike Conn and Ryan Marshall.  He held the lead until Conn got past him on lap six.  Mike Bodendorfer, tied for second in points with his brother going into the night, was one the move and was up to third on lap six and got past Conn on the following circuit for the lead.  It appeared that Conn had some sort of mechanical problem as his number 10 slowed and also allowed Marshall and Bell to motor past as well.  Right after the completion of lap seven, Simons had his problem and brought out the yellow.  Marshall also went to the pits while under caution.  Kuxhouse spun his number 57 on lap eight in turns three and four bringing out the final yellow.  He had to restart from the rear.  By lap 11, Jeff Bodendorfer had taken over second right behind his brother and it looked like it was going to come down to a Bodendorfer shootout.  Kuxhouse had other ideas and picked off cars every lap.  Kuxhouse took the lead on the final circuit getting past Mike Bodendorfer for the win.  There was some discussion as to whether Kuxhouse was scored a lap down when he brought out the yellow but it was determined he was still on the lead lap and picked up his fourth win of the year.  Kuxhouse will look to wrap up the 2007 championship next Saturday night.

Cody Potter started the Street Stock feature outside of row four so he had his work cut out for him if he wanted to take home the checkered flag.  Steve Kennedy got credited wit leading lap number one but Tyler Peterson had other ideas and took the lead on lap number two.  On lap five, Potter went by Bob Walczak to take over third place behind Peterson and Steve Podratz.  The leader, Peterson, brought out the yellow on lap number seven when he came to a stop on the speedway giving the lead over to Podratz.  Potter wasted no time on the restart to get by Podratz and on lap nine, Potter was the leader followed by Podratz and Walczak.  Potter held on for the victory and put some distance between himself and Tim Vandervere in the points race.

Billy Combs took advantage of the pole position and led lap number one in the Sport Truck feature.  However, he just wasn’t strong enough to hold off Dale Gustum and dropped back to second on lap four.  The only yellow of the event came out on lap six when Tom Ross and Combs got stuck together after making contact on the front stretch and they hit the tire barricade in turn two.  Gustum went on to the win with Vincent Merry coming up just a bit short and finishing second.

Three different drivers were credited with leading a lap in the Fearless 4s main event but Dustin Richards led the only one that counted – the last.  Ryan Andrew held the early advantage but turned it over to Tom Homan on lap seven.  Homan was unable to hold off Richards for very long and Richards took control on lap nine.  Richards held on for the win with Tim Jendrycki getting past Homan late in the event to finish second.

The 2007 season finishes up next Saturday night as the Modifieds, Street Stock, Sport Trucks and Fearless 4s wrap up their season championships.  Racing is scheduled to start at 6:30.  Contact the track office at 262-279-3892 or the track at 262-862-2446 for more information.
